Ongoing Projects:

The Cultural committee

The cultural committee, headed by Ndi Nkem-a-achena-Lebang (Dr. Morfaw) and Ndi Nkem Dr Steve Wilcox, has been doing a great job. At the May 2006 LECDA-USA annual convention, Nkem Wilcox presented a detailed report of the culture committee's past activbities, challenges and projects. Health

1. Obtained and shipped 40 ft container of medical supplies and equipment to Lebialem hospitals, health centers and clinics.

2. Financed the accreditation of Mary Health of Africa Hospital Fontem as one of 19 HIV/AIDS Treatment Centers in Cameroon

3. Funded baby formula provided to children born to HIV/AIDS mothers in Lebialem. You can also support this project at individual levels.

4. Funded a study on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Lebialem

Education

1. Provided 150 benches to Secondary Schools in Lebialem

2. Funded the production of lessons on DVD on "Learning to Speak Nweh Language" These are on sale for $30 per set of DVDs.

Maintain an electronic discussion forum for LECA members, partners and well wishers interested in Lebialem Development in the US and abroad.

Produced annual publications including: Report and Convention Proceedings and Cultural Almanac, and distributed to LECA members and families in the US and abroad.

Resources Referral Services to LECA-USA members provide information and technical assistance to LECA members and families in the US.

PAST PROJECTS

 2005 Projects

Assisted in the Accreditation of Mary Health of Africa hospital Fontem as an HIV/AIDS treatment center.

Grant to provide bottled milk to babies born to HIV positive mothers.

Production of audio-visual tapes for learning Nweh language of Lebialem completed and now on sale.

Provide 150 Benches produced for impoverished Primary Schools in Lebialem so that all students can have a sit during lectures.

 2003 Projects

In March 2003, LECA-USA Shipped 14,000 PENS and 14,000 pencils to Lebialem for Distribution among the elementary School kids. A total of 28,000 writing materials were therefore made available to our children.

In March 2003, LECA-USA Shipped computers to Lebialem for Distribution among Lebialem Schools. With electricity finally in Lebialem, the digital age for Lebialem is fast becoming a reality.

In March 2003, LECA-USA Shipped more than 3000 BOOKS and other educational material to Lebialem for Distribution among Lebialem Schools.

The 2003 LECA-USA Exhibit and conference is planned to be a feel good, make you proud event. We have produced a promotional video highlighting all your efforts and contributions over the past years. Please be sure you are in New Jersey to see it live.

LECA-USA plans to donate funds to the Mary Health of Africa Hospital Expansion project. The building of the Mary Health of Africa Hospital expansion project is in progress. The building shell is up and a lot still has to be done: including a roof, ceiling, plastering and equipment.
