- More and more children are being born in Lebialem to HIV/AIDS infected mothers
- There is a high chance for children to get the disease from their mother at birth or through breast milk
- Fortunately, the children can be spared this mishap if fed with bottled milk.
- However, few parents can afford to sustain a child completely on artificial milk
Luckily
All it takes is the kindness of the more fortunate
To lift these children out of this situation
Into which they didn't come by choice
And so LECDA-USA
Stepped in with the first show of solidarity
In the month of February 2005, the Mary Health of Africa Hospital (MHA) in Fontem received the sum of CFA 500575 Francs from LECA-USA for the purchase of the baby formula Guigoz I and II as breast milk substitutes for children born to HIV/AIDS infected mothers. In May 2006, LECA-USA increased the funding for the baby formula project with an additional donation of CFA 1,200,000 Francs.
Then other Diaspora
Lebialemers;
From Germany, Oliver Nkengazie wrote on LECA’s Yahoogroups (LECAnet):
"The president of Lebialem family meeting Wuppertal, Germany (Mr. Aungafack Nkeng) has expressed his sincere appreciation to his brothers and sisters of the above association for the significant support they gave to the infant milk project at the HIV/AIDS treatment center at Mary Health of Africa Hospital Fontem." The Lebialem community in Germany donated the sum of CFA 200,000 Francs on May 22nd, 2005.
Enter Massachusetts
The CEO of LECA-USA wrote to thank the "Massachusetts chapter of LECDA-USA sincerely for donating $466 as additional support for the baby formula (milk) project at the Mary Health of Africa Hospital Nveh-Fontem."
What can I do? Does my effort count?
Sure it does!
It counts in ways you will never imagine
As Dr. John Nkengasong of the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, USA explained: "There are greater chances for these innocent souls to survive and have a life, if they are not breast fed by their infected others"
How big can I sacrifice?
-Just your change after shopping
-By giving up just one bottle of beer a week for one month.
-Or just keeping $1 dollar/500 Francs a day for 30 days
To save a life that may one day be a great light to the world.
To give every life a chance
What can I do?
Donate to the infant milk project at Mary Health of Africa Hospital, Fontem.
Donate and make a difference in the life of these children!
